Instagram has recently made it clear that it’s no longer a purely photo-sharing app. You’ve probably noticed, as we have, that more and more videos show up in your feed these days, and this is consistent with experts’ assumption that Instagram would prioritize videos over still images. While not the only way to add more videos to your profile, Instagram Reels are a great way to incorporate this type of content into your marketing strategy to educate and entertain your audiences. Here are a few pointers to help you create your own Reels.
Be Creative
When you think about your Instagram Reels content, give yourself permission to create. If you’re enjoying yourself while creating a Reel, then that will come through to your viewers. Take some time to figure out what works for you – and no, you don’t have to learn new choreography if you don’t want to! Think outside the box, and don’t be afraid to try some Reels featuring your work or office if you’re a bit camera shy.
Put Yourself in Your Audience’s Shoes
Instagram delivers plenty of entertainment value, and as a business owner, you want to make sure you’re providing helpful information as well. What questions have been coming up lately for your clients? How can you help facilitate a transformation for your audience? Use these questions as a jumping-off point for your content. As you brainstorm ideas for your Instagram Reels, consider how your viewers will receive them.
Keep it Short and Sweet
Reels run 15, 30, and, for some accounts, 60 seconds long. Don’t feel like you need to fill up that space with content. Some of the best Reels out there are seven or eight seconds long. These short Reels provide more opportunities for replays, and that only boosts your Reel’s exposure.
Have a Purpose
For your business account on Instagram, be sure that your Reels serve a purpose. They’re not just pretty or fun video clips. Instead, they should fit into your overall brand. You don’t always have to be promoting a product or service, but think about how the Reel will support your overall business goals.
Stay on Instagram if Possible
Instagram wants you to stay on the platform as much as possible – no surprise there! So, third-party apps for editing and adding music aren’t the best way to ensure your Instagram Reels get exposure. Practice creating Reels to get comfortable making them on Instagram. You can always delete one if you mess something up.
